A day at The World Jamboree - 11-08-2007

 21st World Jamboree, Chelmsford

On Saturday 11th August Dad and I set off for the World Scout Jamboree at Hylands Park. We drove to an airfield and parked up. We got our tickets and got in the queue for a coach to take us to Hylands. When we got there we walked through a massive arch bearing the Jamboree logos and the word ‘Jamboree’ written big in yellow. We then passed a guard of honour with every country’s flag flying. We then saw how massive the area was. There were tents and temporary buildings everywhere. Every country participating had a tent to publicise their beliefs and cultures in. All of the ‘world tents’ were arranged in the shape of the ‘fleur de lys’ if looked at from above. We looked in as many as possible. After looking at the ‘world tents’, we stopped for a coffee and to decide where to go next. We chose to go to a few more ‘world tents’ and then go to see the Show. On the way to the Show we stopped to look in the Radio Scouts tent and I did a bit of soldering. We then set off in the wrong direction to the Show. Eventually we found it and it was MASSIVE!! It was a really good and professional performance with songs, dance and video clips. After the Show we had another look at the ‘world tents’ we hadn’t looked at and then went to the Day Visitor Centre and had a look round there. After that we headed to the Scout Food Stalls. We went in the Czech tent and Dad had a beer and I had a Dark lemonade that tasted a bit like Iced Tea. After that we had one quick last look round and a browse in the shop. Luckily they sold badges in the clearance shop so we didn’t have to spend hours queuing for the big shop. We then saw the national flags being taken down and headed for the coaches. We got back to the airfield and headed home. It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip and I would very much like to go to the next world Jamboree in Sweden in 2011!
